Come Dog! with Emma

Say good bye to frustratingly calling Fido over and over again, to no end. In our Come Dog! class, you’ll spend six weeks building foundation behaviors that will get your dog coming back to you when you need it the most. Our recall class is a games-based series where we will be teaching our dogs that proximity to us pays off big time. Each week, we will learn a new game that will help build a reliable recall, and discuss the different ways that we can introduce increasing levels of distractions. This class will have your dog coming when called before you know it!

Triggered Dog with Emma

This 6 week class is designed to help you and your dog develop skills to help reduce reactivity in your dog’s daily life. In a notoriously unpredictable world, this class helps reactive dogs learn in an environment where triggers can be controlled with the help of two instructors. The class teaches you and your dog how to prevent reactions and what to do if your dog is reacting. Triggered Dog is best for people and reactive dogs who have never taken a dog training class directed at reducing reactivity or who are looking for more practice with triggers in a controlled setting.

NO DOGS THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. HUMANS ONLY. NO CHILDREN UNDER AGE 12.

Who is this class suitable for? Dogs that growl, bark, and lunge at other dogs while on leash. Dogs may or may not be friendly when off-leash to other dogs.
What if Triggered Dog is full? We recommend signing up for daytraining + private training lessons in the meantime then!

IMPORTANT: During the first class you'll learn how to enter and exit the building with your dog to prevent reactions. All of the dogs come in and exit one at a time. During the class the dogs *cannot* see each other as they're behind visual barriers at their own stations unless it's their turn to come out of their station for exposure to triggers.

Length: 6 weeks, meeting 1x per week
For:
Any dog of any age who struggles with reactivity on leash.
Fee:
$300
Vaccine Requirements: At least one round of DAPP administered 7 days prior to the start of class, Bordetella recommended; email records to team@urbanpawsibilities.com or upload to the portal upon sign up

DOG GROUP CLASS
FAQs

  • Classes have space for between 6-8 people per class.

  • You and one other partner/child may attend during class.

  • One minor (under 18) per Client is welcome to join each activity, but each minor must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will be responsible for ensuring that the minor is not disruptive. Children under 13 are not allowed into the Triggered Dog class. We do not recommend children under 7 attend classes, and highly encourage you to bring a 2nd adult to class if a young child is attending. Children must not disrupt the class or disturb other students or their dogs. Children should stay at their stations.

  • All classes include homework that is emailed out after each class. If you miss a class, you can catch up on what we worked on in the homework.

  • We do not offer makeup classes for classes that you miss.

  • You should bring 3-4 different kinds of pre-cut, high value treats for your dog to train with. We generally recommend rotisserie chicken, deli meats, cheeses, and hot dogs. Store bought treats for dogs are generally not very motivating for most dogs. You should bring up 1-2 cups of food to use through the class, and should skip dinner after class if your dog is on a diet. Reducing the amount of food they get for dinner after a group class is only recommended if you are worried about your dog’s weight. Most dogs are fine eating extra food once a week. Along with training treats, we also recommend bringing a long lasting enrichment treat, like a stuffed peanut butter kong, a beef tendon, smoked kneecap, bully stick, etc.

Besides food, please also bring your dog on a collar or harness attached to a 4-6ft leash. No prong collars, ecollars, choke chains, flexi leads, or bungee leashes are allowed. Certain classes may require you to also bring class-specific items from home and will be listed in the introductory email for the class.

  • If your dog is dog- or people-reactive, they should sign up for our Triggered Dog class, daytraining program or onsite private lessons before signing up for other group classes.

If your dog is not generally reactive, but occasionally barks in class, the first thing you should do is try to get more space from other dogs in the class. If you need it, we can also provide a visual barrier for your dog to work behind during class. Try to come prepared with a long lasting enrichment treat to give your dog something to do during times when the instructor is talking.

  • We generally recommend that puppies are no younger than 10 weeks old when they sign up for our Puppy Dog class.

  • Classes purchased and paid for after 1/1/23 are not eligible for refunds under any circumstances after purchase for any reason.

Please CLICK HERE for the cancellation policies for other services.

  • Classes are held once a week for 6 weeks.

  • All of our group classes consist of short lectures, group instruction, and time for questions. There is usually a short introduction to the material, followed by demonstration and practice on a set of skills, and a Q&A at the end. Each member of the class is spaced out around 10ft apart, and dogs are encouraged not to interact with each other during the class. If your dog is struggling to be near other people and dogs, a barrier will be used to prevent your dog from being able to see triggers. The instructor will always make rounds during the class to check in with you personally about your progress and provide feedback.

  • Some dogs feel more comfortable working with strangers than others. Your dog not being chosen for demonstrations does not mean that the trainer does not want to work with you and your dog. If your dog is not used to demonstrate behaviors with the instructor during class, then it is likely that the instructor has identified that their interaction with that dog creates a stressful situation for the dog. In those cases, learning from someone they trust (you) is going to set your dog up for success.

  • Homework is sent out via email after each class. Homework can take up to 2 days to be sent. If you have not received any homework for class, please contact us.

  • In general, we recommend not feeding your dog before you come into class. If you have an evening class, feed your dog their dinner in the class or after class. If you have a morning class, feed your dog half their breakfast before coming to class.

  • Dogs must be free of contagious illnesses to attend drop off services and group classes. If your dog has kennel cough (a cold or any upper respiratory infection), Giardia, canine warts, Coccidia, fleas, ringworm, pink eye, or any other contagious illness, you must wait until your dog is no longer contagious and cleared by your vet to attend. If you're unsure if your dog should attend, please contact us. Credits due to illness or injury are determined on a case by case basis.
